Scott Murphy
New York 20

Special Election — New York's 20th District

Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20) was appointed to the U.S. Senate to fill the seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The special election to fill Gillibrand's Congressional seat will be held on March 31. Democrat Scott Murphy will face State Assemblyman Republican Jim Tedesco. Although currently held by Democrats, this is a Republican-leaning district, and this race will be very close.

The Republican Party is serious about this race... The following is an excerpt from a recent New York Times Article:

"The biggest political matchup in the country right now pits a seasoned Republican lawmaker against a Democrat in one of New York's most traditionally conservative Congressional districts. National Republican leaders have vowed to make the contest a turning point for their beleaguered party..."

About Scott
Scott Murphy, 39, is literally in the business of creating jobs. For more than 15 years he has successfully saved and created jobs, helped small businesses grow, and found new ways to tackle old problems.

For the last eight years, Scott has worked for Advantage Capital Partners, helping other businesses grow and create jobs for their local communities, and protecting good-paying jobs here at home.

Scott has also worked as an aide to Democratic Governors Mel Carnahan and Roger Wilson, and served as the deputy chief of staff to Governor Roger Wilson of Missouri.

America and the World
Working towards an international solution to climate change will be a critical issue in the coming years, and Scott believes that we can find solutions that cut greenhouse gases and create green jobs in green energy across the country.

Health Care
With about 47 million Americans lacking health insurance — and many more unable to afford skyrocketing costs — the United States is facing a health care crisis.

Scott believes we must find a bipartisan solution that provides health care access to everyone. By increasing coverage, we can reduce visits to the emergency room for routine care and ensure that no family is forced to choose between quality health care and other necessities. Scott has pledged to work with President Obama, Republicans and Democrats in Congress, and leaders in the health care industry to find common ground on ways to expand health care coverage to all Americans.

Scott also supports federally funded stem cell research. This research holds promise to provide cures to some of the most devastating diseases including childhood diabetes, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
